Hits & Misc. #07: RandomBot 🤖
It’s been a while since my last newsletter. It’s been busy. But good busy. Spring has been full of exciting design projects and I can’t wait to share some of this work as it goes public over the next few months.
Until then, I’ve got a pair of random stories to share before diving into five recent personal projects you may have missed elsewhere online…
1. Luigi Primo: a best wrestler, make a best pizza! 🍕
I’m not sure where I first came across the pizza-wielding pro wrestler Luigi Primo, but I can’t stop laughing at his entry over on Party World Rasslin’ Wiki —which will undoubtedly change over time, but currently includes lines like:
”When he has his opponents down on the mat, he's been known to ‘top’ them with cheese and vegetables in a grotesque perversion of the pizza-making process.”
and
”At, WrestleSlam I: Riots of Spring, Luigi Primo did battle with his tormenter and widely purported son, Pastaman.”
And it gets better: check out this deep dish from an interview with Wrestling Inc. where Primo takes on the nature of a “calling.”
"On the other hand, I've seen how much people like it and how much it resonates with them. And I love it and I'm passionate about it," Primo stated. "But for me, a calling is not just something like 'Oh, I love to play "Pac-Man," it's my calling because I love to do it.' The second half of a calling is other people calling you to do it and being like, 'Wow, this means a lot to us.'"
2. Jackassery Will Not Be Tolerated in Seattle's Only Flag Contest 🚩
I don’t know how I missed Seattle’s 2019 flag flap… but I’m still laughing/inspired after being recently brought up to speed. It’s a whale of a tale and you should read all about it here before heading over to the flag’s official About page for merch and more tomfoolery. 🐳
Misc 🔗
To celebrate International Burger Day, I asked Localist subscriber Justin to give us the lowdown on London’s best burgers: he did not disappoint. 🍔
My first foray into AI generated art/design was this series of conceptual shoes for Earth Day. 👟
I got bored—momentarily—and published a baseball-focused edition of Boring Monthly. ⚾️
Nobody asked what it would have looked like had other directors taken the helm of a Wes Anderson film… but I answered anyway. 🎥
While we’re talking about the cinema: I also re-imagined some of my favourite Bluey episodes as feature-length films here. 🐶
